Shona is a highly experienced Occupational Therapist and Case Manager with almost 30 years of clinical practice, specialising in the assessment and rehabilitation of individuals with acquired brain injury and other complex neurological conditions. Throughout her career, she has developed extensive expertise in evaluating the impact of neurological injury on function, independence and long-term care needs, enabling her to provide independent, evidence-based opinions in complex personal injury and clinical negligence litigation.
As a Case Manager, Shona works with adults who have sustained acquired or traumatic brain injuries and those living with complex neurological conditions. She undertakes comprehensive assessments of physical, cognitive, psychological and environmental factors, identifying how these interact to influence functional ability, rehabilitation potential and future care requirements. Her holistic approach ensures that recommendations are individually tailored, practical and focused on maximising independence and quality of life.
Shona is experienced in coordinating multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams, recruiting and managing agency or directly employed care and support teams, and overseeing care packages. She advises on equipment provision, environmental solutions, housing suitability and adaptation requirements, ensuring that interventions are tailored to the individual’s goals and needs. She works collaboratively with legal representatives, treating clinicians and therapists, statutory agencies and funding bodies to achieve the best possible outcomes.
She has particular expertise in evaluating the physical, cognitive and behavioural consequences of brain injury and understanding how these impairments affect all aspects of daily living. Her strong assessment skills, balanced clinical judgement and holistic approach enable her to formulate practical, proportionate recommendations that support long-term independence, safety and wellbeing.
Prior to moving into case management, Shona spent over 25 years within the NHS, specialising in acute stroke and neurological rehabilitation. As the lead Occupational Therapist within a specialist stroke service, she developed extensive experience in assessing and rehabilitating individuals with complex neurological impairments and advising on equipment, housing adaptations and safe discharge to the community.
Shona also has extensive experience undertaking independent occupational therapy assessments within clients’ own homes, evaluating functional ability following injury or illness and producing clear, objective reports addressing functional presentation, rehabilitation needs and the likely impact of disease progression on functional independence and future care needs.
She remains committed to maintaining the highest professional standards through regular supervision and continuing professional development, ensuring her work reflects current practice and developments in neurological rehabilitation. Her opinions are informed by extensive clinical and case management experience, sound professional judgement and a practical understanding of the long-term challenges faced by individuals with complex brain and neurological injuries.
