Specific Injuries Experience
As a Clinical Lead Nurse in complex care, Sarah has extensive experience supporting adults with life-changing spinal cord injuries (complete and incomplete). She writes and leads on complex care packages involving advanced clinical needs such as the management of autonomic dysreflexia attacks, airway management, tracheostomy, pressure area care, gastrostomy, including PEG feeding, and continence care, including bowel and bladder management. Sarah’s bespoke care plans support individuals living with a spinal cord injury in managing their day-to-day life, and help to improve confidence and well-being.
Sarah collaborates closely with continuing healthcare commissioners, case managers, and private clients to assess, review, and implement safe, personalised care plans. She maintains regular engagement with the specialist spinal unit in Southport and brings extensive experience in supporting adults requiring 24-hour care. Her comprehensive knowledge spans both community-based and acute clinical settings, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred outcomes.
As an expert witness, Sarah provides impartial, evidence-based opinions informed by her first-hand knowledge of the significant physical, emotional, and social challenges faced by individuals with spinal cord injuries.
Employment Profile
In her current role, Sarah is responsible for the planning, implementation, and oversight of bespoke complex care packages for adults with significant health and care needs, particularly individuals with spinal cord injuries. Sarah is also responsible for delivering in-depth training to care teams on both the practical and theoretical aspects of specialist care, with a particular focus on the unique requirements associated with spinal cord injury.
She also provides clinical supervision and formally signs off staff to ensure they are competent in delivering care that is tailored to each client’s specific needs. Sarah is highly experienced in clinical risk assessment, auditing, and the development of individualised care plans that respond to a client with a spinal cord injury’s evolving needs. She is confident managing complex clinical situations and ensuring safe, evidence-based care across all packages.
Previously, Sarah worked as Regional Lead Nurse at Prestige Nursing and Care, where she offered close clinical support to nurses delivering highly complex care. Her responsibilities included writing and reviewing detailed care plans, staff training and supervision, and conducting clinical audits to uphold the highest standards of care delivery.
Earlier in her career, Sarah gained valuable acute experience in NHS settings. She began as a Theatre Recovery Practitioner in a busy trauma centre, before moving to a surgical ward at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, caring for patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgery. This acute background shaped her expertise in assessing critically ill patients, initiating emergency interventions, and making sound clinical decisions under pressure.
