Specific Injuries Experience
As an experienced case manager, Samantha specialises in working with adults who have suffered mild to severe brain injuries. Whilst she has particular expertise in brain injury, many of Samantha’s clients have sustained considerable physical, cognitive, psychological and emotional impairments which impact their day-to-day lives.
Samantha’s clients often present with co-morbidities such as orthopaedic injuries, spinal injuries (fractures) and visual or hearing impairment, this gives her the insight and knowledge to comment and provide recommendations around such issues when linked to the primary injury.
Samantha adopts a holistic, client-centred, collaborative approach to problem-solving and care planning. She is skilled at recognising an injured individual’s long-term care needs thanks to her wealth of experience in understanding the suitability of a property, recommending housing adaptations, working with architects and sourcing appropriate aids. Samantha recommends appropriate assistive technology, specialist equipment and adaptations to maximise her client’s independence whilst minimising risks.
Employment Profile
After qualifying, Samantha worked within the NHS in both acute physical and mental health settings including orthopaedics, trauma, neuro-rehabilitation, secure forensic services and community intermediate care. Throughout this time, Samantha worked with a broad range of clients with varying injuries and complexities.
Samantha entered into case management in 2015 so has substantial experience in completing detailed assessments and case management plans with costs. She coordinates and works closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team and has significant experience in directly recruiting support workers and managing and training agency care staff. She also liaises with rehabilitation care units and has supported several of her client’s goals to move and transition to their own homes in the community, some from long-term residential settings.
Samantha has a good understanding of the litigation process having worked with clients both pre- and post-settlement. She works alongside her clients to promote and improve independence through engagement in meaningful and purposeful activities through access to a range of leisure, educational and vocational opportunities.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Samantha worked clinically with both Public Health England and NHS Professionals. She also volunteered with several charitable projects delivering food to frontline NHS staff, homeless shelters and vulnerable members of the community and sewing scrubs for the NHS. Samantha was previously involved in setting up an occupational therapy service within a day centre for the homeless.
Samantha is a member of the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management and has presented a talk for them on the role of case management when working with a client and social services.
