Specific Injuries Experience
Leane is an experienced and confident occupational therapist with a strong commitment to person-centred practice. As a senior practitioner within a high-demand adult social services team, she demonstrates advanced clinical expertise across a broad spectrum of conditions. These include orthopaedic injuries (e.g. fractures and joint replacements), amputations (upper and lower limb), and complex neurological disorders such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and motor neurone disease.
Her caseload also frequently includes individuals living with cancer, chronic respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and chronic pain. Leane is adept at supporting clients with co-existing challenges, including cognitive impairments, mild brain injuries, and mental health conditions such as depression and low mood.
Leane’s detailed, holistic assessments support evidence-based recommendations on long-term care, housing adaptations, and appropriate equipment.
In addition to her generalist practice, Leane has specialist knowledge in the field of visual impairment. She played a key role in supporting Birmingham City Council’s Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Service, where she provided expert guidance on the assessment and provision of aids and adaptations (e.g. lighting, rails, and adapted utensils) and signposted clients to relevant support networks and charitable services to enhance and sustain independence.
Employment Profile
Since 2016, Leane has led a team of occupational therapists in adult social services, overseeing referral screening, staff training, clinical supervision, and support for complex cases. Alongside her leadership role, she manages her own clinical caseload. She is responsible for prescribing aids and equipment and excels at creating and reviewing care plans that enhance independence and quality of life. Leane sits on the weekly Priority Needs Assessment Panel, reviewing major adaptation requests and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated service delivery.
She began her career on a trauma and orthopaedic ward, where she carried out assessments and arranged equipment and care to support safe discharges. Throughout her career, Leane has contributed to key service development projects, including hospital avoidance strategies, single-handed care reviews, and a short-term enablement programme.
Leane is a well-organised clinician who is committed to expanding her professional expertise via a variety of training and development activities.
