Specific Injuries Experience
Karen’s typical clinical caseload is community based and consists of clients with a wide range of injuries including complex orthopaedic injuries, soft tissue injuries, back injuries, upper/lower limb amputations, and psychological injuries. She provides hand therapy and occupational therapy for clients of all ages, treating a wide range of upper extremity injuries, complex trauma and disease processes.
Karen commonly deals with the ongoing support and equipment needs of individuals with injuries resulting from traumatic injury or elective surgeries. The cohort of individuals she frequently deals with have issues with joints, either following orthopaedic surgery, joint replacement or due to arthritis. This will often result in weakness in the affected limb and/or chronic pain. Additionally, Karen treats and supports individuals who have peripheral nerve injuries arising from trauma or clinical negligence. The individuals on her caseload often have associated conditions such as chronic pain syndromes, psychological injuries, neurological conditions, and systemic health problems such as diabetes. Karen is responsible for managing her clients’ ongoing functional needs, through occupational therapy assessment, recommendations, and treatment.
Related to the above, Karen has extensive clinical experience in the treatment of complex upper limb and hand injuries, often combined with other injuries in individuals who have sustained polytrauma or multiple traumas.
