Specific Injuries Experience
Kara is a Case Manager and Occupational Therapist specialising in physical disability, with extensive experience identifying, coordinating and managing the rehabilitation, care and equipment needs of individuals with complex and catastrophic injuries.
In her Case Management role, Kara works predominantly with clients who have sustained severe orthopaedic trauma, including upper and lower limb injuries, amputations, spinal fractures, and complex hand injuries. Many of her clients require intensive, long-term rehabilitation input and coordinated multidisciplinary support.
Kara frequently supports individuals with co-existing conditions alongside their orthopaedic injuries, including internal injuries (such as laceration of the spleen and other abdominal trauma) and neurological impairments, including acquired brain injury, stroke and foot drop. She is experienced in managing the functional, cognitive, and psychosocial impact of these complex presentations.
A significant proportion of Kara’s caseload includes clients with brain injury and/or mental health needs in addition to physical trauma. She is skilled in supporting individuals with associated psychological difficulties, pain and fatigue, ensuring rehabilitation plans are holistic, client-centred and outcome-focused.
Drawing on her community care background, Kara is experienced in working with individuals with long-term neurological conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and Parkinson’s disease, and is confident managing the functional and emotional challenges that commonly accompany these conditions.
Kara also has experience working as a Clinical Supervisor within paediatric services, providing reflective supervision, case discussion, and clinical guidance to clinicians working with children and young people. Her supervisory work has included supporting clinical reasoning and decision-making, promoting safe and ethical practice, and ensuring alignment with professional standards.
Employment Profile
Kara is a highly qualified independent Occupational Therapist and Case Manager, with over 18 years’ experience in providing high quality community care and support to individuals with complex physical and mental health needs. Her experience has predominantly been in Social Services and community rehabilitation.
In her current capacity as a Case Manager Kara supports those who have suffered significant injuries and advocates for their ongoing rehabilitation and support needs. As an independent practitioner she works directly with clients to support them in maximising independence and to achieve their goals. She has confidently built and developed an inter-disciplinary approach to each client’s needs, sourcing appropriate treatment and input as required. Kara is adept in managing a busy schedule of independent therapy work.
Her previous experience in community services has provided a solid foundation and understanding around care, aids and equipment and larger housing adaptations. During her time with Oxford City Council Kara was the lead for housing, ensuring all minor and major adaptations met the client’s needs, whilst delivering the most cost-effective option. Her focus is very much about maximising the client’s potential and ensuring ongoing independence.
