Specific Injuries Experience
Drawing on extensive nursing and case management experience, Helen specialises in supporting children, young people and adults with acquired and traumatic brain injuries. She has experience managing the full spectrum of brain injury presentations, from mild and moderate cases to individuals requiring complex nurse-led care, including enteral feeding and specialist equipment management.
Helen also works extensively with individuals with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, learning disabilities and challenging behaviours. Her strong clinical background provides a comprehensive understanding of the long-term impact of neurological injuries and the care, rehabilitation and equipment requirements needed to support each individual effectively.
Through her case management work, Helen supports clients with a wide range of co-morbidities and has developed strong insight into associated conditions, including orthopaedic injuries, bladder and bowel issues, mental health difficulties, chronic pain, visual impairment and pressure care.
Helen has completed large housing adaptation projects and is comfortable outlining these types of recommendations. She is adept at recognising the client’s requirements to help them access the community – from liaising with the DVLA and facilitating transport options to sourcing and arranging appropriate holidays or respite breaks.
Helen has extensive professional experience supporting autistic individuals throughout her career as a Registered Learning Disability Nurse and Case Manager.
She has also worked as a Registered Manager for services supporting adults with autism, overseeing the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.
Employment Profile
From her many years working as a Brain Injury Case Manager, Helen has considerable experience in recognising, implementing and managing the overall care and equipment needs of her clients. She is responsible for assessing the individual in their home environment and setting up/costing appropriate packages of care – this includes writing update reports and the recruitment and management of large support teams. Helen takes a person-centred approach when assessing for and arranging bespoke packages of care for her clients. She works with the individual to help set and achieve realistic goals. Helen is passionate about working with the client and their families to facilitate independence so far as possible.
Helen has achieved advanced practitioner status with the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management (BABICM). She is dedicated to her continuous professional development through regular attendance at study days, courses, refresher courses and industry events. Helen has a special interest in epilepsy management and delivers training on epilepsy awareness and the safe administration of buccal midazolam in epilepsy.
Helen started her career working in a range of NHS hospital and community nursing settings supporting people with learning disabilities to access health services. Earlier in her career, Helen worked as an operational manager within a charity that supports people with learning disabilities to live in their own homes with support. Part of this role saw her supporting clients through independent living trials. During 2022/23, Helen took a position as Clinical Registered Manager overseeing six complex needs homes – her time in this role helped her to further develop her understanding of CQC compliance and employment law.
Helen works as a Care Expert Witness with Jacqueline Webb & Co, writing comprehensive reports for the Court. She attended Bond Solon Courtroom Skills Familiarisation in 2025.
