Specific Injuries Experience
Faye is a confident and intuitive clinician with vast experience in supporting children and young people with significant or complex needs. Faye regularly works with children with cerebral palsy, acquired and traumatic brain injuries, learning disabilities such as ADHD and autism spectrum disorder and challenging behaviours.
Faye’s caseload also includes degenerative neurological conditions and rare congenital disorders (including Batten’s disease, Mucopolysaccharidosis, Rett syndrome, Angelman syndrome and muscular dystrophy), cancer, epilepsy, internal injuries sustained as a result of trauma or assault and orthopaedic injuries including lower limb amputations. Many of the children Faye works with have comorbidities or associated conditions such as hearing or visual impairment, pain, respiratory conditions and pressure sores.
Faye has extensive expertise in assessing and recommending personalised packages of care tailored to meet the immediate and long-term needs of children with complex medical conditions. She understands that as children grow or their health condition changes, whether improving or deteriorating due to age, new treatments, surgical procedures or changes in medical interventions (i.e. the introduction or removal of ventilation or tracheostomy), their care plans and equipment must be regularly reviewed and adapted to ensure optimal outcomes.
As a regular member of a care package review panel, she plays a key role in evaluating and authorising adjustments to care packages for children across the borough, whether to reduce, maintain, or increase them. As well as sitting on the panel, Faye often presents her recommendations, with justification, to the board to gain agreement and financial investment. This involvement has honed her clinical reasoning and provided her with valuable insights into effective care management.
Employment Profile
With over twenty years of experience in occupational therapy, Faye has developed a broad expertise spanning both adult care and paediatric services in clinical and community settings. Early in her career, she worked in acute hospitals, managing inpatient caseloads across various wards, including orthopaedics, neurology (stroke), medical, surgical, rehabilitation, geriatric care, and oncology. From 2008 to 2016, Faye held a senior role in Lewisham Adult Social Care Services, where she conducted home-based assessments and implemented interventions such as equipment provision, home adaptations, and care package recommendations. Her work aimed to help adults with disabilities live safely and independently in their own homes.
Since 2016, Faye has served as a Highly Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist, leading the delivery of community-based therapy services for children. Alongside her operational and supervisory duties, Faye maintains a clinical caseload and is responsible for assessing children’s immediate and long-term needs, including care packages, equipment provision (both standard and specialist), and home modifications (both minor and major).
Faye conducts a range of assessments, including initial occupational therapy (OT) evaluations, home safety assessments, manual handling risk assessments, and specialist equipment assessments.
Faye works collaboratively with a broad range of social care, health, and community teams to deliver holistic support to children. This includes working closely with care agencies, charities such as Demelza, Evelina Children’s Hospital, respite homes, wheelchair services, and transport teams. Through these partnerships, she ensures that the children she supports lead fulfilling, enriched lives.
Faye demonstrates outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a sharp attention to detail and expertise in both presentation and report writing.
