Employment Profile
Carrie is a Registered Paediatric Nurse with over 20 years’ specialist experience in the assessment, coordination, delivery and management of complex paediatric care across hospital, community, educational and home care settings. Since 2015, she has specialised in assessing children and young people with complex healthcare needs, evaluating care provision, reviewing extensive clinical records, and producing detailed, evidence-based reports. Her expertise combines advanced clinical knowledge with a comprehensive understanding of healthcare commissioning, funding frameworks, and the practical delivery of care across both statutory and private sectors.
In her current role as a Children’s Continuing Care Nurse Specialist, Carrie undertakes comprehensive holistic assessments, formulates and presents costed recommendations to multidisciplinary funding panels, develops and coordinates individualised packages of care and supports transition into adult continuing healthcare services. Through this work, Carrie has developed an in-depth understanding of the long-term care and therapeutic needs and the impact of complex conditions on a child’s health, development, functional independence, daily living, and quality of life.
Carrie has dedicated her career to supporting children and young people with life-limiting conditions and significant healthcare needs, including cerebral palsy, acquired or traumatic brain injury, hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), birth injury, neurological, genetic and congenital conditions, developmental delay, respiratory conditions, and palliative and end-of-life care. Many of the children and young people that Carrie has worked with have also had a diagnosis of visual impairment; cortical impairment or blindness. She has experience working alongside various visual impairment teams within a child or young person’s multidisciplinary team.
Carrie has specialist expertise in the management of high-dependency nursing care, including enteral feeding, epilepsy and complex seizure management, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, tracheostomy care, suction management, oxygen therapy, bowel and bladder care and medication administration. She is experienced in assessing the level of support required to safely deliver these interventions across a variety of care settings. From 2017 to 2020, she worked as a Home Care Nurse, providing one-to-one care for a child with significant and complex healthcare needs, giving her valuable insight into the practical realities of delivering complex care within the family home.
Carrie’s career began in paediatric hospital services, where she assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated care for children with acute and complex health needs, monitored critically ill patients and delivered hands-on clinical care. She subsequently spent eight years as a Special Schools Nurse, developing extensive knowledge of the educational, developmental and healthcare needs of children attending specialist educational settings. During this time, she contributed to staff training, competency assessment and safeguarding practice, further strengthening her understanding of the wider needs of children with disabilities and complex health conditions.
Carrie maintains current clinical practice through ongoing work as a Children’s Continuing Care Nurse Specialist and regular continuing professional development. In 2026, she was invited to speak at St. George’s, University of London, and Queen’s Nursing Institute national conferences, reflecting recognition of her expertise within paediatric continuing care.
