Specific Injuries Experience
Through a variety of roles, Angela is experienced in assessing the needs of a wide range of people including children, adults and older adults predominantly with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and mental health concerns.
She has extensive experience working with people who live with fatigue, neuropathic pain, chronic pain and pain syndromes. This may be as a result of traumatic injury, surgery or progressive conditions such as arthritis or Multiple Sclerosis. This includes working with people with joint replacements, orthopaedic conditions and injuries, lower limb amputees, neurological conditions and spinal injuries.
Her current Case Management and Community OT work includes people aged over 18 living with illness and injury. Her input includes assessing and advising on their rehabilitation needs, ongoing support and equipment and adaptation needs. This can include wheelchair provision, housing adaptations and moving and handling equipment.
Angela regularly works with people with multiple health concerns alongside other conditions such as obesity, diabetes, depression, anxiety and dementia and is aware of the importance of considering all of these factors in co-ordinating a person’s care. She is experienced in advocating for people in seeking approval for local authority care or funding.
Angela also has experience of working with clients with a range of continence needs including people with over and under active bladders, permanent catheters, intermittent self-catheterising, ostomies, anal irrigation, manual stimulation and evacuation and double incontinence. Angela’s role with these clients has included looking at how their continence management impacts on their lifestyle, diet, housing and care needs including moving and handling, often working closely with nursing and physiotherapy colleagues.
Employment Profile
Angela has worked with Jacqueline Webb & Company preparing independent expert reports since 2010, and has extensive experience in case conferences and experts’ meetings. She has completed over 150 reports.
As a Case Manager and Community Occupational Therapist Angela supports adults and young people with a wide range of conditions including progressive neurological diseases, spinal injury, lower limb amputation, palliative care, older adult mental health (dementia), and behavioural conditions and learning disabilities (including cerebral palsy and associated epilepsy). Many of the clients she has worked with have multiple health and social care concerns which require comprehensive assessment and planning of appropriate therapy, care, equipment and adaptations.
Angela sits as a Disability Qualified Panel Member in the Social Entitlements Chamber, making judgements on appeals for disability benefits. She has also been a Fitness to Practice Panel Member for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) making decisions on registered therapists’ suitability to remain in practice. Within education Angela works with the HCPC as a Partner Visitor ensuring that the courses leading to professional registration are meeting the required standards.
Angela’s specific area of clinical interest remains in complex care needs, planning appropriate care packages and ensuring people have a choice in how their care is provided, in a location of their choice.
