Specific Injuries Experience
Alex is an experienced Brain Injury Case Manager with over 10 years of clinical and strategic expertise across acute, community, and private settings. She specialises in supporting clients with traumatic and acquired brain injury (all severities), post-concussive syndrome, and orthopaedic injuries. Many of her clients also present with additional complexities, including lower limb amputation, chronic pain and mental health difficulties.
Alex is highly skilled in assisting clients coping with the physical and cognitive consequences of brain injury. Many of her clients, often referred to as the “walking wounded,” have made significant physical recoveries but continue to experience cognitive impairments. These include executive dysfunction, difficulties with attention and concentration, challenges in decision-making, memory deficits, lack of motivation and initiation, as well as impaired insight.
Drawing on her prior experience as a CQC Registered Manager, Alex is confident in setting up and monitoring care and support packages. She facilitates independent therapists and services, as well as charitable organisations, to complement statutory provision, ensuring that the client’s potential and quality of life are maximised. Her approach emphasises inclusion and participation, supporting clients to engage in meaningful activities at home and in the community.
Alex ensures the client’s home environment accommodates their therapy and care needs. She coordinates the provision of aids, equipment, and property adaptations to enhance independence and safety.
Alongside case management, Alex delivers specialist occupational therapy interventions for clients with traumatic brain injury, conducting comprehensive physical, cognitive, sensory, and motor assessments. She produces clear, evidence-based recommendations to guide both clinical planning and financial decision-making, working effectively with families, funders, and other healthcare professionals.
Alex prepares timely and comprehensive Initial Needs Assessments, update reports, and occupational therapy reports for solicitors and funders, with experience across single-instruction, joint-instruction, and post-litigation cases.
Employment Profile
Alex began her career in acute and community roles within the NHS and social services, gaining experience in acute medicine, care of the elderly, stroke rehabilitation, community reablement, complex discharge planning, rapid response, and housing adaptations. These varied roles provided a strong clinical foundation and confidence as an occupational therapist.
In 2019, she founded a CQC-registered, therapy-led domiciliary care service providing bespoke care and support packages for adults with physical disabilities, dementia, mental health and sensory impairment. As the CQC-registered manager, Alex oversaw clinical governance, risk management and quality assurance and successfully grew the business.
Since 2021, Alex has worked as an Associate Case Manager and Specialist Occupational Therapist. She excels at building rapport with her clients and establishing tailored rehabilitation, care and support teams to promote independence in daily living and reduce the risk of carer breakdown. For clients with limited insight or cognitive and communication challenges, she introduces compensatory strategies, aids and equipment, and structured routines to maximise function and quality of life.
Her core occupational therapy skills underpin a holistic, client-centred approach. Alex is committed to ongoing professional development, with particular focus on neurology. She is a Level 3 Sensory Integration Practitioner and has completed further training in Advanced Safeguarding, Moving and Handling (‘Train the Trainer’), Cognitive Rehabilitation (Kit Malia and Anne Brannagan), Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and Learning Disability and Autism (Oliver McGowan Training).
