Specific Injuries Experience
Sarah has extensive knowledge and experience of working with children and adults who have suffered a brain injury either at the time of birth or acquired via accident or negligence. Sarah’s specific area of interest lies in the challenges and difficulties children can experience as they transition to adulthood, with the further complications associated with their injuries. Sarah has extensive experience working with children and adults who are experiencing mental health issues, autism, and other behavioural disorders. Sarah is also confident in supporting those who have orthopaedic injuries (including lower limb amputation), and visual/hearing loss or impairments, in conjunction with brain injury.
Employment Profile
Sarah has worked as a Case Manager since 2007, and is also a registered Occupational Therapist. Prior to this she had 12 years’ experience of working with adults and children with physical, emotional and mental health difficulties. This included work as a support worker, team leader and rehabilitation assistant, for adults and children with acquired brain injuries. Throughout her career Sarah has worked to support children and adults who have suffered catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injury, complex orthopaedic conditions and psychological injuries. Many of the clients that Sarah has worked with have also presented with challenging behavioural and emotional needs.
The experience gained in her case management role allows her to set up and co-ordinate her clients’ rehabilitation to maximise their potential. This involves drawing on a multitude of other clinical professionals to support her plans. She ensures that there is a strong team approach supporting her clients and as such she organises and chairs regular meetings and ensures relevant information is distributed amongst the rehabilitation team. She also works collaboratively with the client and their family to promote engagement and autonomy.
Sarah is a member of the BABICM working group for ‘Professional Practice and Membership’.
Sarah has given evidence as a Witness of Fact in her capacity as a Support Worker and attended Bond Solon’s Courtroom Skills Familiarisation in 2023.
