Employment Profile
Robena is an independent speech and language therapist with extensive experience and knowledge of working with communication and swallowing impairments as a result of a wide range of acquired disorders (including traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and other neurological disorders). Her particular area of interest and specialism is working with adults with traumatic brain injury.
Robena is enthusiastic, highly motivated and hard working. She works at a high standard and is able to identify and offer suggestions to enhance service development and delivery. Robena is pro-active with evidence-based practise as she feels that it is of utmost importance to keep up-to date with new techniques and ideas to improve the quality and effectiveness of the service provided.
Robena has substantial experience of working within trans-disciplinary models of service delivery. These holistic approaches to assessment, rehabilitation and long term care have extensively broadened her skills in working across and beyond the traditional boundaries of speech and language therapy. By working collaboratively with various other disciplines on client-centred goals (Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians), she has ascertained extensive additional knowledge and skills of different clinical areas.
She has excellent communication skills and takes pride in her ability to establish a rapport with clients, their relatives and other professionals.
Robena is aware of the need for empathy and sensitivity when discussing unwelcome news, prognosis and the changes that occur in relation to acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
She has a non-judgemental attitude and is sensitive to and respect the needs and aspirations of clients and carers from all walks of life. Robena is able to adapt quickly to different environments and new situations and is capable of working effectively independently as well as part of a team. Robena believes in maintaining a good working liaison with all colleagues and members of the trans-disciplinary team. She is also fluent in speaking Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.
