Specific Injuries Experience
Louise has significant experience working with adults with physical disability including amputation, complex orthopaedic and fracture injuries, and neurological issues. She is also experienced in palliative care and manual handling. She works with adults across a broad age range and so she sees clients at varying life stages of injury.
Louise is confident in supporting the pain and mental health issues which her client’s often experience in addition to their life-changing injuries.
Louise now works with individuals who have sustained brain or spinal cord injury, often in conjunction with other orthopaedic injuries. Associated sensory impairment is common with these clients.
Employment Profile
As a Specialist Occupational Therapist Louise has significant experience working in a wide range of settings in health and social care and private practice. She has held responsibility for the assessment and co-ordination of clients’ immediate needs under rehab, short-term reablement, and longer-term. Louise has extensive experience of supporting clients with a wide range of care, equipment and adaptations needs. She is confident in assessing and co-ordinating packages of care within the community, and navigates the therapeutic relationship required to secure client safety at home, considering both initial and long-term need.
Louise now works as part of a multi-disciplinary team specialising in intensive neurological rehabilitation therapy, supporting clients to achieve graded GOALS both within the home and care setting. She assesses for equipment and long-term care packages, particularly where baseline outcomes have been met and rehabilitation intervention is no longer appropriate; essentially setting the client up for the long term.
Louise also works as a Case Manager, supporting clients and their families and carers following catastrophic injuries. Louise makes appropriate recommendations to care givers, charities or the local authority for any adjustments to the immediate environment and co-ordinates any care and other needs identified. Louise supports her clients to achieve their rehabilitation GOALS.
Louise is especially skilled in providing a range of moving and handling advice, training, bespoke equipment through to major adaptation recommendations to meet the needs of the adult and their care givers. Louise is committed to maintaining client independence and social engagement and is practised in identifying areas of functional difficulty and potential risks of injury within the home environment. Louise regularly undertakes complex moving and handling assessments for adults within their own homes and formulates personalised plans. Louise provides training to carers, with responsibility for safeguarding and prevention of harm.
