Specific Injuries Experience
Joanne is a highly experienced and dedicated occupational therapist with extensive expertise in adult care across diverse clinical settings. She specialises in providing support for individuals facing a wide range of conditions. These include orthopaedic injuries such as upper and lower limb amputations, joint replacements, and spinal injuries (e.g., fractures). Joanne also frequently works with individuals living with neurological conditions, including stroke, motor neurone disease (MND), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and functional neurological disorder (FND). Additionally, she supports those with terminal illnesses such as cancer, respiratory conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asbestosis, as well as other progressive diseases.
Joanne is confident in addressing secondary challenges such as chronic pain and sensory impairments, including visual and hearing loss, which often accompany primary conditions.
Joanne is skilled in conducting full functional assessments and reviews, enabling her to accurately identify and advise on the correct level of care support to meet an injured person’s needs. She is experienced in assessing and providing both standard and specialist equipment, as well as recommending property adaptations to promote and restore independence for individuals who have suffered life-changing injuries.
Employment Profile
As a senior occupational therapist within a community team, Joanne is committed to empowering individuals to achieve independence and lead fulfilling lives. She collaborates with her multidisciplinary team colleagues to recommend holistic, person-centred care and tailored equipment solutions that meet each individual’s needs and goals. Joanne also liaises with or signposts to statutory and charitable organisations as necessary, ensuring her clients can access the support required to reach their optimal functional level. Her interventions prioritise client and carer safety, always adopting a practical, client-focused approach.
Between 2023 and 2025, Joanne was a Lecturer/Teaching Fellow delivering modules on Return to Practice for Allied Health Professionals and Enhanced Clinical Practice at Coventry University.
Before her current role, Joanne developed extensive expertise across a variety of health and social care settings. She honed her skills in conducting thorough assessments, implementing aids and equipment, recommending both minor and major housing modifications, and writing tailored care plans. Additionally, she collaborated closely with social care colleagues to ensure holistic support for individuals. This diverse experience provided Joanne with a deep understanding of the progression of injuries and diseases, enabling her to evaluate both the immediate and long-term needs of individuals with life-changing conditions. Her insights inform her approach to delivering compassionate and effective care and equipment solutions tailored to each individual’s circumstances.
In the past, Joanne worked as a Disability Assessor, where she expertly reviewed medical information and conducted comprehensive assessments of claimants’ functional abilities related to their health conditions and disabilities.
