Specific Injuries Experience
Eleanor has significant experience in managing the ongoing care needs of adults suffering from traumatic and acquired brain injury of all severity levels. She carries a caseload of complex Case Management clients, so has a good understanding of the litigation process. Her clients commonly have a combination of cognitive impairments and associated psychological and physical injuries which impact on all aspects of their daily lives. Eleanor also often works with clients who have sensory impairments in addition to their primary injury.
Eleanor is responsible for reviewing the ongoing requirements for these services, adjusting recommendations and care plans in accordance with the client’s changing needs. Eleanor has experience of using both agency care and directly employing support workers to provide care. She values each client’s individual lifestyle choices and strongly supports goal planning to include leisure and holiday to maximise quality of life.
During her 10 years working with the Gloucestershire Brain Injury team Eleanor gained experience with acute and longer term rehabilitation for brain injury clients, including those in low level arousal and those with tracheostomies in situ. She was also involved in complex discharge planning with the OT and Social Worker, working closely to plan equipment and care needs. She was then involved in planning long term follow up and rehabilitation, including vocational rehabilitation where appropriate.
Eleanor currently works as a specialist neurological physiotherapist in private practice. She routinely works with clients who have physical, cognitive and vestibular impairments following brain injury or stroke. She creates bespoke rehabilitation programmes for these clients, supporting them with tonal and strength abnormalities, disorientation, balance, and fatigue management. She works alongside other services to ensure her client’s total needs are met.
Employment Profile
Since qualifying as a Physiotherapist in 1998, Eleanor has gained a wide range of experience in hospital and community teams, focusing as a specialist in neurology.
Whilst she has particular expertise in brain injury, having worked in this area since 2002, Eleanor continues to work with this injury group to this day. This experience has included working in conjunction with specialist MDTs.
Since Eleanor opened an independent practice and moved into Case Management, she has gained a greater understanding of facilities available outside of statutory services. These two workstreams have exposed Eleanor to a broader spectrum of associated injuries including amputees, orthopaedic fractures and visual impairments. Her independent work also focusses on vestibular rehabilitation.
