Specific Injuries Experience
Claire has significant experience as a catastrophic injury Case Manager, working with children and young adults. Her main area of interest is in working with individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injury. She is confident in the co-ordination of care and aids/equipment needs of this client group.
Claire worked for many years with The Children’s Trust charity, supporting families who have children with life changing injuries or disabilities. This included working with children and young adults with acquired brain injuries to varying degrees of severity. Claire is very competent at resourcing and signposting individuals to private and public funded services.
Claire has also worked extensively in the community with children with CP and other neurological conditions. Additionally, she has supported clients with other associated or secondary injuries, including severe fractures and orthopaedic injury, and psychological issues. Psychological factors considered did not just relate to the child/client, but also to their immediate family and Claire is adept in supporting all effected by life-changing injury.
Employment Profile
Claire qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2001. Claire has specialist skills working with children and adults with acquired brain injury and neurological conditions. She has extensive experience of working within a variety of settings, including the NHS, charitable organisations, the private sector and education. Claire has worked within the acute, community and residential rehabilitation setting offering specialist intervention, including Bobath therapy and sensory integration to clients with a range of complex needs.
Claire is currently a catastrophic injury Case Manager with Bush & Co, and completes independent occupational therapy assessments for Enable Therapy Services. Claire has worked in collaboration with mainstream and specialist education over many years and has experience of supporting families through the Education and Health Care Plan application process. Her focus is on enabling education staff to understand the child or young person’s needs and how best to support them to optimise their academic performance.
In 2010, Claire began working with The Children’s Trust Charity as a Team Leader for the residential rehabilitation service for children with acquired brain injury. She established GAS goals whilst working alongside a large multi-disciplinary team. As a Community Brain Injury Specialist, she provided a holistic and client/family centred focus to identifying children’s rehabilitation needs and support access to the appropriate service. She has delivered training to a range of professionals within education, social care and health. In addition to her role as Brain Injury Specialist, Claire commenced working as an Occupational Therapist for adults and children with traumatic brain injuries and neurological conditions within the private sector.
