Specific Injuries Experience
Having spent more than 18 years as a Senior Occupational Therapist in Trauma and Orthopaedics Services, Zoe has in-depth experience of working with adults with severe physical disability in the pre-operative service and on acute and rehabilitation wards. Zoe has worked with patients who have bomb/blast injuries, complex fractures and upper and lower limb amputations. Many patients also present with complex underlying physical, psychiatric, psychological and social needs.
Zoe is experienced in working with those who have acute medical conditions. She has also routinely cared for patients who have undergone emergency, major abdominal surgery.
Zoe now continues to work with patients with a wide range of orthopaedic, medical and neurological conditions in the community setting.
Employment Profile
Zoe has been an independent Expert Witness since 2010, working with both claimant and defence teams. She has completed 89 initial reports and is experienced in attending case conferences and participating in expert meetings.
Zoe is a Senior Occupational Therapist employed by Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working in the Community Rehabilitation Service. Zoe works with individuals who present with complex underlying physical, psychiatric, psychological, social, cultural or environmental needs. She acts as key worker for designated patients, who she visits at home to undertake detailed multi-disciplinary assessments. She then works within the multi-disciplinary team and with the wider health, social care and third sector communities to minimise risk and support independence with activities of daily living.
Prior to this, Zoe spent over 18 years’ working as a Senior Occupational Therapist in Trauma and Orthopaedics for the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. She worked in the pre-operative service and on acute and rehabilitation wards.
Since qualifying as an Occupational Therapist in 1988, Zoe has produced reports for health and social care agencies which have included detailed information and recommendations to meet individuals’ care, equipment, therapeutic, environmental and psycho-social needs. She has explored short and long-term functional problems and identified solutions that offer support and maximise independence to facilitate discharge home. Zoe has recommended care packages, therapeutic interventions and adjustments to the home.
During her career, she has worked in a wide variety of care settings: emergency departments, acute wards, palliative wards, discharge planning wards, in-patient rehabilitation, day hospital, intermediate care and community. Being the most senior OT practicing clinically within the service between 2002 and 2012, Zoe developed and led the OT team working in Older People’s Medicine.
A clear and experienced communicator, with skills developed as a lecturer in occupational therapy, Zoe completed her MSc studies in 2004. These involved in-depth data gathering, research, analysis and presentation of complex information.
Zoe used to be Chair, and continues to be a member, of the College of Occupational Therapists’ Older People Specialist Interest Group. She is also a member of the College of Occupational Therapists’ Trauma and Orthopaedics Specialist Interest Group, and the National Back Exchange.
