Specific Injuries Experience
Nikki has special interest, skills and training in brain and spinal cord injuries. She has dedicated her career to working with this client group and ensures she maintains currency in her skills through her clinical practice, case management, and ongoing training and course attendance.
As an independent specialist neurological Physiotherapist in the private sector, Nikki treats adults with complex neurological injuries/conditions and those with complex multi-trauma injuries. Her clients include those with spinal fractures, complex orthopaedic injuries and amputations, neurological conditions and Cauda Equina Syndrome. Nikki regularly works with clients with brain injury and spinal cord injuries and assists them to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
Nikki has been a Case Manager since 2008, and has significant experience of working closely with clients who have suffered brain and/or spinal cord injuries, and their families. Completing holistic assessments, Nikki then prioritises, manages and co-ordinates her client’s immediate and ongoing needs to promote independence as far as this is possible. Nikki is regularly involved in the recruitment, training and supervision of carers and support workers and she holds the position of CQC registered manager for StanleySmith Case Management. She has extensive experience of working as an integral member of multi-disciplinary teams and is experienced in compiling Case Management and Physiotherapy reports for patients, solicitors and insurers.
Employment Profile
Nikki qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2000 and has extensive experience working in neurology and rehabilitation, from hospital to outpatient and community rehabilitation settings. Throughout her career, Nikki has worked across the full range of neurological services including: ITU, acute stroke unit, neuro-surgery/neuro-medical wards, primary care stroke unit, neurological rehabilitation, neuro-musculoskeletal outpatients, and neuro-hydrotherapy.
As a Senior Physiotherapist and Team Leader, she has led and implemented new stroke services and has completed specialised assessments, treatment and evaluation of the neurological and rehabilitation patients. She has also taken an active role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering, developing and evaluating the patient therapy service.
Since 2011 Nikki has been Director and Clinical Lead Physiotherapist at South Hams Physio Ltd, where she works as a specialist neurological physiotherapist in the private sector. She works with clients who have complex neurological and/or orthopaedic injuries to help them reach their full physical potential and improve their quality of life.
Nikki has worked as a Case Manager since 2008, assessing complex neurological/orthopaedic/rehabilitation clients holistically to guide and support them in achieving the best possible quality of life following accident or injury. She became Co-Director and CQC Registered Manager of StanleySmith Case Management Ltd in 2018.
Nikki is dedicated to continued personal and professional development and has attended many courses including: The Bobath Concept, Motor Relearning following neurological injury, neurological hydrotherapy, acupuncture, reflexology, splinting, and numerous FES assessment and treatment courses.
Since 2018, Nikki has worked as an independent Care and Physio Expert Witness with Jacqueline Webb & Co. She has participated in numerous case conferences, expert meetings, and she attended Bond Solon’s Courtroom Skills Familiarisation in 2021. Nikki also provides mentorship and completes quality reviews for the company.
