Current employment: I am a Senior Occupational Therapist within an intermediate care team in West Wiltshire and a specialist lecturer at the University of the West of England on their Occupational Therapy degree programme. I also work as a senior associate for Harrisons Training, teaching qualified therapists and support workers on nationwide courses. I have been a consultant and expert witness for Jacqueline Webb & Co Ltd for five years preparing reports for use in personal injury litigation.
Work history: I qualified as an occupational therapist in 1994 and have worked in a variety of physical settings including general medicine and surgery, orthopaedics (trauma and elective), palliative care and neurology. I have worked for acute trusts, community hospitals, intermediate care and in residential settings. I have also spent two years as a department manager, responsible for 16 staff.
My main area of expertise is within neurology and specifically acquired brain injury and stroke, in which I have more than ten years’ specialist experience. I also continue to work with patients with a wide range of orthopaedic and general medical conditions within my intermediate care work however and have many years’ experience of assessing clients with a variety of conditions and setting up care and equipment packages to maintain them in the community setting.
Special interests/expertise: Teaching carers and relatives to cope with clients with brain injury or stroke. I also offer treatment sessions at a local therapeutic MS centre and have worked as an accredited bereavement counsellor for Cruse International with more than five years’ experience.
